Message from the Captain
There is no bigger honour for any Golf club Member than to be asked to be Captain of their club. Therefore I will do my level best to ensure that the good name and traditions of Blackburn Golf Club are upheld during the next twelve months.
We are undergoing several exciting changes at the start of the year, our new Pro John O’Neil is settling in well and I am sure he will do a great job for us. Not only does John want to develop his shop and swing analysis room but he also wants to take an active part in the running of the club.
The development centre is still on track to be up and running for the spring, this will give us some much needed practice facilities and make us the envy of most other local clubs.
We are again offering a membership deal of two for £1100 for the year; this is an exceptional offer to join a club that is really moving forward. Council is aware though that we must keep looking at ways to improve facilities all around the club, but we also must still be conscious of keeping our finances under control and live within our means. The fact we have again recorded a small surplus shows we are committed to this and also puts us in a very strong position in what is a competitive local climate. We have also seen some big personnel changes to council this year, and I am looking forward to working with the new team.
Fortunately we only have two teams drawn in the preliminary round of the knockouts this year; they are in the Archie Preston and City Glass Foursomes knock outs. The Dunham Forest and seniors teams are into the first round proper. Lists to make yourself available for the different teams will be in the locker room.
I hope to be able to play with as many members as possible during the coming year, and hopefully we will get some decent golfing weather for us to enjoy our course that Ian Shaw our head green keeper and his team work so hard to provide.
Similarly our Steward is working hard to offer a good quality food menu along with a well-stocked bar for all members and guests to enjoy. Why not try one of the specials which are now regularly available.
We again intend to run regular senior yellow tee competitions throughout the summer, these will be alongside the existing comps and will hopefully again prove to be popular.
Many thanks and I hope you have a great golfing season.
Our President, Mr. Gordon Stobbart,
May we take this opportunity to wish him a happy and successful term of office.
The Lady Captain
Our Lady Captain for 2017/18 is Mrs. Barbara Clapton. May we take this opportunity to wish her a happy and successful term of office.
Message from the Lady Captain
As many of you will know this is my second term in office a Lady Captain of Blackburn Golf Club, and as I did first time around seventeen years ago, I will endeavour to uphold the ethos of our club. It is a great honour and privilege to be Lady Captain and I am looking forward to supporting all areas of the club both on and off the course and indeed to supporting our Captain in his endeavours in his year in office. I will be taking an active interest in our team matches and hopefully be able to support in person all home and away matches.
My charity this year is to raise money for the club which will go towards any improvements and enhancement’s to the course. So I hope you will support me in the initiatives I have for raising some much needed funds that will benefit us all in the long term.
I am really looking forward to 2017 being a great year for Blackburn Golf Club and I leave you with this interesting piece of advice;
‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal, but the courage to continue that counts’.
I wish you all a good golfing and most of all enjoyable season.
