Ladies’ Section
We are a friendly group of around 30 ladies of varying ages and abilities and would welcome any new ladies who are complete beginners or who have played golf before. The Ladies’ Section is run by a Committee of 5 ladies, chaired by the Lady Captain of the year, and is supported by a number of co-opted members.

Our primary competition day is Tuesday, when the tee is reserved from 9.30am to 11.30am with times also available later in the day for working ladies. In addtion, we have a number of competitons that also have dual tee-times on a Sunday as well as Tuesday.

We run various competitions throughout the year including team and fun competitions, plus we play on Tuesdays in winter. Members can also compete in club knockouts and participate in our Mixed competitions. We hold 4 Ladies open competitions throughout the year which are:

  • Shotgun
  • Texas Scramble
  • Seniors
  • Turkey Shoot

The Ladies Section enter regional and national competitions including the Handicap Shield, Bronze Shield, Interclub Matches, Daily Mail Foursomes, Bell Cup and Archie Preston (mixed). Annually we hold a Club Champions Evening in October and a Ladies Prize Presentation Evening in November where prizes for the year are awarded. In addition to our golf, we also have a varied social calendar which includes fashion shows, theatre trips, exchange days with other golf clubs, weekends away, ten pin bowling, crown green bowling, tribute acts, children’s Christmas party, members Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties.

Ladies Golf Academy

Blackburn Golf Club is proud to present the Ladies Golf Academy. This is designed to introduce ladies to golf and develop their skills and knowledge and, most importantly, enjoyment of the game. It will run over 2-3 years at the pace of your development, and consists of 4 main elements:

Introduction to Golf

A 6 week programme of weekly group lessons from our Club Professional plus practice sessions run by a team of mentors from our Ladies Section. The cost is £45 and includes social membership of the Club.

Skills Development

This is a 12 week programme consisting of a min of 4 group lessons plus weekly practice sessions with the mentors. During this period you will have the chance for some practice time on the course and can start to pick up some knowledge of the rules & etiquette. The cost is £60. Extra lessons can be arranged with the Club Pro, at your cost.

Continuing Development

Over the winter months, November through to March, you will continue to have regular practice sessions and restricted access to the course, play with mentors, friends and amongst yourselves. The cost is £20 per month.

Interim Membership

From the start of the new season ladies who have gone through the Development programme will be able to join the club on a restricted female annual subscription of £300. This membership is available for up to 2 years or until you get a playing handicap, whichever is the sooner. During the interim membership you will continue to be supported by the mentors, have restricted access to the course and there will be lots of opportunities to get involved in our social events as well as playing
